Single Administrative Document DUA for EXPORT

28/08/2024

What is the DUA?

The DUA is an official document used in the European Union to declare goods at customs. It is mandatory for all exports and imports of goods that take place outside of European territory. Its purpose is to facilitate the control of products entering and leaving the country and to ensure compliance with current rules and regulations.
Please note that the DUA is not an export or import license, but a document necessary for carrying out such operations.

The DUA is presented in electronic format and is processed through the Tax Agency platform. It details the products to be imported or exported, their value, origin and destination, as well as any taxes or tariffs that must be paid.

How to obtain a DUA?

  1. The first thing is to register on the Tax Agency platform: in order to present the DUA, it is necessary to register on the Tax Agency platform. You can do this if you have a digital certificate or electronic ID (and yes, we know that this point is not always as easy as we would like)
  2. Requesting the reference number: once registered, you must request the DUA reference number. This number will be used to identify the declaration in the processing process.
  3. Filling out the form: with the reference number in our possession, you will have to fill out the electronic form with the data of the import or export operation.
  4. Attaching the required documentation: depending on the nature of the operation, additional documentation may need to be attached, such as invoices, certificates of origin and/or permits.
  5. Customs inspection: and finally, when the DUA has been submitted and you have paid the corresponding amount, the products will undergo a customs inspection to verify that everything is in order.

What consequences can I have for generating the DUA declaration incorrectly?

It is important to stress the importance of correctly completing the DUA declaration, since any error in the declaration can lead to retention of the goods at customs or also sanctions and/or fines.
It is also very important to ensure that the importer at destination (UK for example) is registered in the customs system and has an EORI number.
